Some Helpful Tips and Notes:
How I would recommend painting furry volumes. As you know, there are several basic shading techniques in painting and drawing, and I like this one because it is the most suitable for me (I think it is one of the most rational to paint the fur) to start coloring with a neutral halftone local color , then shade it according to volume and lighting, and then add layers of the fur with colors a little lighter than the shading underlying.
- You can try to first place the basic shading with a simple, hard or soft brush (as you can see in the Video with the demonstration), and then place the hair strands on top, depending on the shape and lighting.
- Next, as usual, you need to make some areas deeper (darker) (for example, the deep shadowed areas between the strands near their roots) or set some light accents and highlights in the highlights.
- You can also experiment with layer and brush blending modes, such as Soft Light, Screen, Multiply, etc.
- As in painting or drawing, I would recommend moving from common main shapes to partial shapes and details: first, specify the main large volume, highlights and shadows, then place undetailed strands of hair with the matching brushes and then do the details with detailed hair brushes.
- In the end, I would add some of the sharper strands or hairs, perhaps blend or darken some of the underlying strands and brighten some of the more visible and highlighted strands. Try to make some of them softer or sharper, darker or lighter in the finish or work, a kind of post-processing. Add some highlights.
- As mentioned before, Brushes #2, 3 and 8 have two options for left and right hair growth direction.
- Some of the brushes have small random color variations on each stamp. The intention was to give small color variations to each brush “stamp”, so that each strand would look as different and picturesque as possible. But sometimes this variability may not be necessary, as in your case, as I understand it. In this case, you can reduce hue and saturation fluctuations in the Color Dynamics tab of the Brushes settings. This is the photo of these settings (image from Procreate official website). In particular, I am referring to the “Color Pressure” field and the “Hue” attributes.
How to install the brushes:
- Simply go to the brushes and press the “+” sign at the top, up to the “Brushes Library” heading (or choose absolutely any of the installed brushes) and then select “Import » at the top of the Brush Studio window.
- Next, specify the file with the downloaded brush set (FUR by_eldarzakirov.Brushset).
- Ready! The folder with the set will appear at the top of the list of brush categories.
